Appraise the Health of Your Small Business - For a patient who meets with their health care professional or enters the ER, an appropriate diagnosis, treatment, and outcome depends on:

  1. taking a complete patient history.
  2. understanding the symptoms.
  3. collecting and comparing results from objective tests and procedures.

The process is similar for a small business, whether it is healthy or under stress. A financial health checkup is a valuable exercise that helps an owner establish priorities, allocate resources, and make well-informed decisions based on facts and objectivity instead of intuition and hope.

The goal of this interactive workshop is to equip business owners with the motivation, processes, templates, and tools to appraise the health of their business on a one-time and ongoing basis. Although we will employ financial concepts and terms, participants do not need to be skilled in accounting or finance to benefit.

PRESENTER: Stephen Darby, certified, SCORE mentor

Steve has been a SCORE Lancaster-Lebanon mentor for six years. During his working career, he served in the banking, technology, and financial services industries in a variety of financial management, product strategy, and client service roles. He assists his SCORE clients in various areas, including business planning, financial analysis, competitive analysis, and performance improvement. He also enjoys helping not-for-profit organizations successfully execute their mission and communicate a compelling case for support to their donor base. Steve is a graduate of Princeton University and earned his MBA degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
