Lancaster, PA - Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health’s stroke program at Lancaster General Hospital has successfully achieved the Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center (TSC) certification by the Joint Commission, which designated Lancaster General Hospital as a provider of advanced stroke care.

Lancaster General Hospital is the only hospital in Lancaster County with this advanced level of stroke treatment certification, which is the next level up from Primary Stroke Center.

Lancaster General Hospital’s stroke program underwent a multi-day onsite evaluation through ongoing site visits from The Joint Commission, the leading healthcare accreditation organization. During the visit, a Joint Commission reviewer evaluated compliance with the rigorous standards and quality metrics, developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, which includes endovascular procedures, post-procedural care, and other areas of the hospital involved in the care of stroke patients.

The certification is offered by The Joint Commission in collaboration with the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association and recognizes the significant resources needed to treat complex stroke cases.

“Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center Certification is a recognition of the expert multi-disciplinary collaboration that takes place at Lancaster General Hospital. We are proud to display this certification as a representation of the uniquely high level of care we can provide the community,” says Danielle B. Cross, MD, Medical Director of the Stroke Program at Lancaster General Health.

“Our team’s clinical expertise, coupled with our top-notch compassionate quality of care continues to enhance our excellent patient outcomes. We look forward to continuing to grow the program and our capabilities.”

Lancaster General Hospital began performing mechanical thrombectomy procedures in October 2018, and continues to be the only hospital in Lancaster County to perform this advanced stroke procedure.
