Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health
Holds February 2022 Community Blood Drives

LANCASTER, PA – The Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health Blood Donor Center encourages people to donate blood and platelets as often as possible. Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health sponsors community blood drives each month throughout Lancaster County, as well as at the Blood Donor Center at the Suburban Pavilion. Blood that is collected stays in Lancaster County to benefit members of our community.

The United States is currently experiencing a dangerous shortage of blood supplies. Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health encourages all eligible donors to make a donation at either our blood donor center or one of our community blood drives. Blood donation is safe, including for those who have received a Covid-19 vaccination.

Blood donors must be in good health (free of allergy, flu, cold and nausea symptoms for at least three days), 16 years of age (with parental consent) to 74 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds, be well hydrated, eat a substantial meal within four hours before donating, and bring a form of ID.

LG Health is participating in the Bleed Blue Challenge, which continues to run through Feb. 24.  Blood donors may choose to donate in the name of their preferred police department. The following police departments are participating: Quarryville, Pennsylvania State Police – Troop J, Manheim Township, Manor Township, East Hempfield, Millersville University, Northwest Regional, Mount Joy Borough, Pequea Township, Strasburg, and West Lampeter. During the first half of the challenge, throughout the month of January, the LG Health Blood Donor Center received 430 units of blood on behalf of different departments.

All blood donors must schedule an appointment to come to the blood drives by calling 717-544-0177, or schedule online at LGhealth.org/giveblood (local Blood Drive Events tab). Donors will receive a free gift.
