Local Dental Association Presents $5000 to LCCTC
Lebanon, PA

The Dental Assistant students at the Lebanon County Career and Technology Center (LCCTC) gathered around Lebanon County Dental Association President Dr. Frederick Johnson as he presented a check for $5000 to help underwrite certification testing. The check was accepted by LCCTC Administrative Director Glenn Meck.

According to Meck, taking and passing the radiology or infection control certifications would provide better opportunities for students by enhancing their employability.

“Our students come from all income levels and the cost of the certification tests, averaging $275.00 to $325 each, placed the testing out of reach for most of our students,” said Meck.  “This contribution will subsidize more than half the cost of students’ first attempt at obtaining the radiology or infection control certifications over the next two years.”

The one-year Dental Assistant Program graduates 18 to 20 students each year, both high school students and intergenerational adult students.  The program is a combination of on-the-job training and classroom instruction. Students receive training from other industry professionals while they learn. Without the certifications, graduates would have limited post-secondary employment opportunities.

“We are very appreciative of the partnership with the Dental Assistant Program’s occupational advisory committee and the local dental association to help build stronger futures for our students. This donation is a win-win for the student, who can obtain additional industry-standard certifications, and for the dental office that will have a certified and dedicated employee,” concluded Meck.

“Take charge of your future” is more than a slogan of the LCCTC, it is a promise to each student.  For more information on LCCTC program offerings or to apply, call 717.273.8551 or visit the website at www.lcctc.edu .
