Lebanon County, PA – October 6, 2023: United Way of Lebanon County kicked off its Annual Giving Campaign in September and announced today that it has raised $200,000 dollars toward its one-million-dollar community goal.

The organization also announced that Bert Miuccio was recently hired as the organization’s Executive Director and Samuel Light as Communications and Events Manager.  Miuccio has thirty years of experience as an executive in nonprofit healthcare, technology and social impact organizations. While he is new to Lebanon County, Miuccio has lived in Dauphin and Berks counties for forty-five years. Light is a graduate of North Lebanon High School and Lebanon Valley College.

“Our 2023-24 Annual Giving Campaign runs from September through next June,” Miuccio said. “I’m excited that we’ve made such great progress toward our goal already. Right now local companies are planning and implementing their United way Workplace Campaigns, which are a cornerstone of our Annual Giving Program. Companies typically hold their Workplace Campaigns between October and December. Contributions are used to fund the Community Impact Grants the United Way makes annually to different local nonprofit service organizations and to fund the operation of our local United Way Signature Service Programs, which are Communities in Schools, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, and the 211 Resource Referral Hotline. Donors also have the option to designate their individual United Way contributions to specific nonprofits in our community if they choose.”

Julie Smyth, owner of Henise Tire in Cleona, is a member of the Lebanon County United Way Board of Directors and the volunteer Chairwoman of the 2023-24 Annual Giving Campaign. “Our United Way Workplace Campaign at Henise Tire Service is a gratifying way for us to give back to our community. We make it engaging and fun for our team, and we know that our contributions help our neighbors in need today while building a better future for everyone in Lebanon County.”

Individual contributors of $100 or more to the United Way Campaign this year are eligible for chances to win cash prizes donated specifically for that purpose, a one-year family membership to the Lebanon valley YMCA, one year of oil changes at Henise Tire, jewelry from Leitzel’s Jewelry and gift certificates to Lebanon Market, La Cigale, Morrissey TV and Appliance, and White’s Harley Davidson.

WellSpan Health, The Francis J. Dixon Foundation, Penn State Health, Jonestown Bank and Trust, and UPMC Health are the financial sponsors of the United Way’s Annual Giving Campaign this year.

“The United Way has a 70-year history in Lebanon County. I’m grateful for the opportunity to help build on that tradition and increase its impact on the community in the years ahead and to the many people who have made me feel so welcome in my new role”, Miuccio said. “I’m also thankful to those who contributed to the Campaign thus far, to the volunteers who are leading the charge, to our generous Campaign sponsors and the companies that donated prized to be awarded to a dozen lucky contributors next July.”

“I’ve been a member of the Lebanon County community my entire life, Light said.  “I'm excited to be a part of an organization that impacts my community in a positive way.  I'm looking forward to continuing the great work United Way of Lebanon County has done thus far, and helping in whatever ways I can to further our reach and impact in the community."
