Lancaster, Pa. – December 9, 2021 – Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health’s Women & Babies Hospital earned
national and statewide recognition from U.S. News & World Report and
its Best
Hospitals for Maternity Care.
The
hospital, which is part of University of Pennsylvania Health System (Penn
Medicine), earned the highest available rating of “high
performing” and is ranked first in Lancaster
County and the only hospital included in south-central PA. U.S. News & World Report released its inaugural list of the 237
Best Hospitals for Maternity Care on Tuesday.
U.S. News & World Report evaluates how well hospitals perform in
childbirth using C-section rates, newborn complication rates, breast milk
feeding rates, early elective delivery rates and if a hospital offers vaginal
birth after cesarean (VBAC). Top hospitals for maternity care have been
recognized as High Performing. Less than 10%
of the 2,700 hospitals nationwide that offer maternity services earned U.S.
News recognition for being high performing in maternity care.
The
95-bed Women & Babies Hospital is Lancaster County’s most comprehensive
facility dedicated to women’s health, offering advanced intensive-care unit for
newborns, leading-edge obstetrics, inpatient and outpatient surgeries and GYN
services. More than 4,200 newborns were delivered at Women & Babies last
year.
Earlier
this year, U.S. News & World Report ranked Lancaster General
Hospital among the nation’s top-ranked hospitals in the specialties of Urology
(36th) and Orthopedics (48th tie). In addition to the national
rankings in Urology and Orthopedics, LGH earned national, “high performing”
rankings in five specialties: Cancer, Diabetes & Endocrinology,
Gastroenterology & GI Surgery, Geriatrics, and Pulmonology & Lung
Surgery.
