Volleyball Facility Will be an Ace for the Community

In volleyball, an ACE is a serve that is not passable and results in an immediate point. The construction of the new volleyball facility in Flightpath Sports Park will be an ace. The 19,500 sq ft Prevail Volleyball facility, under construction by H R Weaver Building Systems, Inc , is located next door to the In The Net Sports Complex, located on Airport Road in the 110-acre Flightpath Sports Complex in South Londonderry Township.

According to H R Weaver Building Systems President Chad Weaver, the general contractor of the facility, the building has been designed with some unique structural elements to make it flexible for a variety of community uses.

“In the midst of this Covid 19 pandemic, contactless restrooms, water fountains and the HVAC systems that have air scrubbers and UV lighting to kill bacteria are being installed,” said Weaver. “With the facility planned to be open by the start of the season in October, combined with the guidelines, these items will help mitigate the environment.”

The Prevail facility will be 100 x 195 ft pre-engineered steel building from American Buildings situated on the corner of Brandt Rd and Landings Dive. Of the total area, 5,000 sq ft will be office space and 14,500 sq ft will be for the volleyball courts including four practice courts, three competitive-, or tournament-sized, volleyball courts, a workout area, and a concession stand. Pre-engineered steel buildings are the go-to for warehouses, retail, sports, office spaces and even churches.

Prevail Volleyball owner Clark Sheaffer, who is the head coach of the girls and boys volleyball teams in the Palmyra School District, noted, “Girls volleyball is the most popular sport in the nation right now and it is going to continue to explode. Once a kid starts to play volleyball, it’s such a unique sport that they want to stick with it and keep playing it for the rest of their lives.”

While the state-of-the-art facility will primarily be used for volleyball, both men agree the space will have many other uses throughout the year.

Sheaffer also sees that once the new gym opens, there may be opportunities for large-scale volleyball tournaments through a collaboration between Flightpath’s other sport complex tenants, In The Net and Klick Lewis Arena, home to ice skating. “Klick Lewis has three ice skating rinks there that we could also use by putting down a floor. You’d have to put down a floor for both In The Net and the ice skating rinks, but having a large volleyball tournament is something that could be done.”

For over 47 years, H.R. Weaver Building Systems has been successfully completing construction projects for a wide variety of clients in the Central Pennsylvania Area. H.R. Weaver Building Systems, Inc., also owns Klick Lewis Arena and In the Net Sports Complex in the Flightpath Sports Park where they recently added a large dome in order to have the turf field utilized all year round.

“Think Weaver” is the slogan that comes to mind when it comes to building projects that include Commercial, Residential, New Construction, Remodeling, Renovations, Additions and Electrical work.
