This captivating exhibition of Plein Air paintings by Steve Wetzel invites art enthusiasts to immerse themselves in the breathtaking beauty of landscapes brought to life by the masterful strokes of Wetzel’s brush and palette knife. The technique of Plein Air painting, embraced by Wetzel, infuses each piece with a sense of authenticity and immediacy, transporting viewers to the very heart of the landscapes he depicts. Wetzel was born and raised near the Susquehanna River, and it is evident in his work that his family home, the countryside and the river have had a profound impact on his life and creative journey. Join us for the artist’s reception on Friday, October 13, 2023 from 5pm to 8pm in LPF’s Gallery. The exhibit will remain on display until Saturday, November 25, 2023.
With each painting, Wetzel effortlessly captures the essence of nature’s grandeur, skillfully translating fleeting moments of light and color into timeless works of art. The way he captures the different hues of the river, from the serene blue-grays to the vivid olives and blue-greens, and even the rich chocolate brown after heavy rains, speaks to his keen observational skills and his ability to represent these nuances in his paintings.
“I like the freedom I have to move the paint around as I see fit with oils and so I continue to work in this medium,” Wetzel states, “I feel as if I’m still exploring, and still learning what the paint can do and what I can make it represent…which is what I find so fascinating about the process.”
Among his many achievements, some notable exhibitions include Art of the State at the Pennsylvania State Museum, The Pennsylvania Governor’s Residence, the Pennsylvania State Museum, the Cape Cod Museum of Art, Cumberland County Historical Society, Washington County Museum in Hagerstown, Maryland and the Art Association of Harrisburg.
