Two WellSpan Hospitals Named “Best Hospitals for Maternity Care” by U.S. News & World Report
YORK, PA (Dec. 6, 2022) – U.S. News & World Report has named WellSpan York Hospital and WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital as 2022-2023 High Performing hospitals for Maternity Care (Uncomplicated Pregnancy). This is the highest award a hospital can earn for U.S. News’ Best Hospitals for Maternity Care.
“Our labor and delivery team works hard to make sure both mothers and their newborn babies are provided with the highest quality care available, and we are honored to see that work recognized by U.S. News & World Report,” said Megan Lecas, senior vice president, service lines, WellSpan Health. “When an expectant mom comes to a WellSpan hospital to deliver their baby, we want them to know that the safety of both mom and baby are our top priority.”
The
annual evaluation is designed to assist expectant parents and their doctors
in making informed decisions about where to receive maternity care.
WellSpan
York Hospital and WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital were among the nearly 650
hospitals that were evaluated by U.S. News & World Report for its
2022-2023 Best Hospitals for Maternity Care awards. Fewer than half of all
hospitals that offer maternity care and participated in the survey received a
High Performing designation.
“When expectant parents are considering their options for welcoming a baby to the world, the Best Hospitals for Maternity Care are designed to help them identify hospitals that excel in delivering babies for uncomplicated pregnancies,” said Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News. “A hospital that has earned a High Performing designation may be a good option for parents, in consultation with their medical provider, to consider.”
The
U.S. News Best Hospitals for Maternity Care methodology is based entirely on
objective measures of quality, such as C-section rates in lower-risk
pregnancies, newborn complication rates, exclusive breast milk feeding rates,
early elective delivery rates and vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) rates,
among other measures.
Earlier
this year, WellSpan York Hospital received High Performing recognition by
U.S. News & World Report for COPD, colon cancer surgery, diabetes, heart
attack, heart failure, kidney failure, lung cancer surgery and stroke. WellSpan
Good Samaritan Hospital was named a High Performing hospital for COPD, heart
attack, heart failure and stroke.
