WellSpan Health opens new urology practice in York
YORK,
Pa. (Oct. 6, 2021) – WellSpan Health
today announces the opening of the region’s most advanced urologic care
center – WellSpan Urology, located in York County. The new practice, located
on the Apple Hill Health Campus at 35 Monument Drive, Suite 206 in York
Township, opened on August 16.
“This
practice brings some of the latest advancements in urologic care into this
community, providing our patients with access to treatment of the most
complex urologic conditions,” Megan Lecas, senior vice president of service lines
for WellSpan Health.
The practice
is part of a collaboration with the John Hopkins Medicine, led
by board-certified urologic surgeon Dr. Stephen M. Schatz. After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh
School of Medicine, Dr. Schatz completed a urology residency at Mayo Clinic,
then served on the medical staff at Johns Hopkins for eight years. He will
perform inpatient and outpatient surgeries at WellSpan York Hospital and
WellSpan Apple Hill Surgery Center.
“I
am excited to join the skilled team of urologists at WellSpan to bring our
services to patients in York and the surrounding South Central Pennsylvania
region,” said Dr. Schatz. “Urologic issues can have a significant negative
impact on a man or woman’s quality of life. I am excited not only to get to
know members of the York community, but to work with them to get them back to
a more normal lifestyle.”
The
new practice will provide multi-disciplinary urology services in the York
area, with WellSpan investing in the latest technology to bring the most
advanced care to the region. High-definition video cystoscopes will allow
urologists to spot subtle abnormalities. State-of-the-art ultrasonography at
the practice as well as the DaVinci surgical robot at WellSpan York Hospital
are additional examples of the commitment to technological advances in care.
Services
offered include treatment of conditions relating to the prostate, bladder,
kidneys, testes, and adrenal glands. Some of these conditions are cancers of
the bladder, kidney, and prostate, enlarged prostate, and kidney stones. In
addition to these services, care for male sexual health and reconstructive
surgery will be provided at this location, creating a greater network of care
for men’s health.
