Environmental Scholarship Open
Lebanon, PA
02/08/2024 02:26 PM

The Lebanon Valley Conservancy (TLVC) is currently accepting applications for the 2024 Richard H. and Karen R. Light Memorial Scholarship. The $2,500 scholarship will be awarded to a local student who plans to pursue a career in the environmental sciences.

TLVC awards this scholarship, on an annual basis, in memory of Richard and Karen Light, a couple from the Lebanon Valley who shared a passion for the environment. “Richard was a self-taught naturalist who enjoyed sharing his vast knowledge of flora and fauna that he observed, particularly in Swatara State Park. Karen was a beloved educator and principal who felt that everything in the natural world was important and worthy of respect,” shared Jeanne Boltz, Karen’s sister and scholarship committee chair. “The Lights were inspired by nature and dedicated to conservation. Our scholarship committee is looking for a local student with similar passions,” added Courtney Reimann, land protection director for TLVC.

The Richard H. and Karen R. Light Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a student who resides in the Lebanon Valley and is pursuing a degree in conservation, ecology, natural resources, wildlife management, water resources management or environmental sciences. Eligible students include graduating high school seniors as well as students attending Lebanon Valley College or Harrisburg Area Community College.

Students interested in applying for the scholarship can visit their website. The deadline to apply for the scholarship is March 18, 2024, and the award will be presented during an event this spring.
