Mental health, generational differences, public speaking...These were just a few of the topics discussed at the Leadership Day Workshop Series held at StoneRidge Retirement Living in Myerstown on Tuesday, April 12. This event, part of the Chamber's Leadership Lebanon Valley program, was designed for emerging and established community leaders, and included lively and informative presentations and participant questions and discussion. Each participant had the opportunity to network with and learn from a variety of community leaders. The workshop was open for both LLV students, alumni, and members of the public.
Each attendee selected two workshop sessions to attend in the morning, and two to attend in the afternoon. The morning sessions included a workshop focusing on "Workplace Mental Health." This was a workshop instructed by Andy Seebold, MBA, SPHR, director of business services for WellSpan Health. The workshop featured ways to best support and respond to employees with mental health challenges. Another session included "Goal Setting for Direct Reports." This workshop was instructed by Jason Trout, vice president of development and community affairs for WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital. Here, attendees learned how to influence high performance and coach for success. The last session for the morning was called "Building Effective Work Relationships." This was instructed by Marilyn Walker, president and CEO of synergize! The workshop provided practical tips on how to establish quality relationships with coworkers.
The afternoon sessions included a workshop on “Everyday Speaking 101.” This was instructed by William Mulligan, MBA, senior director of marketing for WellSpan Health. Here, attendees learned key strategies that helped them improve their communications. Another workshop was “Multi-Generational Workforce,” which was instructed by Darin Pickles, director of operations of the A.L. Hanford Center at the Lebanon Valley Family YMCA. Here attendees gained a better understanding of the opportunities and challenges of leading a multi-generational workforce. The last session, called “What Makes a Good Non-Profit Board?,” was instructed by Amy Leonard, Esq., of Henry & Beaver LLP. During this session attendees learned how to keep committees functional and accountable, maintaining appropriate relationships with agency/organization staff, leadership giving and fundraising advice, and how to avoid board pitfalls.
The purpose of Leadership Lebanon Valley is to broaden the base of effective future volunteer leadership within the Lebanon Valley community by cultivating the interest, knowledge and skills of potential volunteer leaders in order for them to contribute time and talents effectively in meeting the rapidly changing needs of our community.
