UPMC’s Virtual “From High School to Health Care” Event Opens Doors to Careers in Health Care
Harrisburg,
Pa., May 09, 2024 – UPMC in Central Pa. is hosting a virtual event for high school seniors and juniors and their parents or guardians, as well as high school teachers, counselors and administrators, to learn more about rewarding careers in health care.
UPMC offers students a wide range of opportunities — whether graduates plan to enter the workforce immediately or pursue additional education — and has developed innovative programs to support those goals.
At the virtual event, students can learn about available career paths, UPMC’s paid training academies for medical assistants, urgent care assistants and EMTs, the UPMC
Shadyside School of Nursing at UPMC Harrisburg and employee growth
opportunities through tuition reimbursement and career ladders.
Attendees
can also learn about the UPMC
Scholars Program and partnerships with area colleges and universities.
Under the UPMC Scholars Program, graduates in selected health care fields who
work at UPMC will receive payments in addition to their salaries equivalent to
the cost of their education. The program is available for high-demand
positions, including cardiac sonographers, phlebotomists, surgical technicians
and more.
As an added benefit, UPMC offers a “tech in training program” that is available for students who wish to work and gain hands-on experience while pursuing a health care education.
