HARRISBURG, PA (FEBRUARY 17, 2022) – As the impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic continues, Belco Community Credit Union is recognizing an emerging need in our communities for improved Financial Health. As a proud participant in ‘America Saves Week’, Belco will be encouraging members and employees to build future financial resilience through saving.
America Saves Week (Monday, February 21 through Friday, February 25, 2022) is a
national, annual call to action for everyday Americans to commit to saving
successfully. Participating organizations encourage individuals to do a
financial check-in, set goals and make plans to achieve those savings goals.
“We simply cannot ignore the effect the pandemic has had on family finances.” says Amey Sgrignoli, President & CEO, Belco Community Credit Union. “Job-loss, illness, medical bills, child-care issues and other major disruptions have left many families financially insecure. Now is the time to discuss the very real need for the average person to have a savings that can ease pressure during these types of emergencies.”
According to the Financial
Health Network, 67%, or roughly 2/3rds of the US population is financially
un-well (meaning they are struggling, or just making ends meet). Through
various community partnerships and programs, Belco offers financial literacy
opportunities to audiences of all ages and incomes. These programs are
scheduled to expand in 2022.
Additionally, Belco currently
has nearly 30 Certified Credit Union Financial Counselors on staff to help
members experiencing financial difficulties.
“Along with increasing the number of families we reach through community education; we are also putting a focus on the financial health of our employees.” says Sgrignoli. “We are excited to bring this much needed education to a broader reach in 2022.”
