AT&T* turned on new sites at Fort Indiantown Gap
(the Gap), and in Bordnersville and Fredericksburg in Lebanon County, giving
users at the base, first responders, area residents, businesses and visitors a
big boost in their wireless connectivity.
A new site in Bordnersville improves
coverage and capacity near the Gap and along Interstate 81, while a new site in
Fredericksburg improves coverage and capacity in Fredericksburg and along
Interstate 78.
These
sites include Band 14 spectrum, which is nationwide, high-quality spectrum set
aside by the government specifically for FirstNet, Built with AT&T ® the only nationwide communications network created with and for public safety. We look at Band 14 as public safety’s VIP lane. In an emergency, this band – or lane – can be cleared and locked exclusively for FirstNet subscribers. When not in use by FirstNet subscribers, AT&T customers can enjoy Band 14’s added coverage and capacity.
The Pennsylvania National Guard,
which is headquartered at the Gap, was among the first agencies in Pennsylvania
to sign on to FirstNet.
“Already, several of our end users here at Fort Indiantown Gap have reached out to me and my team on their notice in the changes in overall service, which is a direct reflection of the work the AT&T and the FirstNet Team have made,” said Colonel Erik V. Smith, Deputy Chief of Staff for Information Management, Pennsylvania Army National Guard Joint Force Headquarters.
The sites are also important for
businesses in the area, including local farms, small businesses and
manufacturers, as well as those traveling along Interstates 78 and 81.
“At the Chamber, we work to help boost our local economy and help our members compete and win in the marketplace. AT&T’s investment in these new sites gives another tool to help make Lebanon County a great place to start, grow and sustain a business,” said Karen Groh, president & CEO, Lebanon Valley Chamber of Commerce.
“With FirstNet, we make public safety’s mission the priority. When agencies on FirstNet respond to incidents – from large events to weather emergencies to man-made disasters and more - we’re there to help coordinate their needs and deliver for the men and women our communities count on the most. We appreciate the collaboration with Gov. Shapiro’s office and the team at the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs to get this new site on the air to better connect those who protect and support our Commonwealth,” said David Kerr,
president, AT&T Pennsylvania.
