Bowl For Kids Sake

It’s Bowl for Kids’ Sake season! Every spring over 700 individuals from across our five-county footprint come together to raise money to support our vital mentoring program. Then, we take over a bowling alley to celebrate the fundraising success.

Swatara Sojourn - 30th Anniversary

We will paddle 30 miles over two days, and camp on the banks of the Swatara.  Registration required.  Use your own canoe or kayak, or we have canoes, paddles and life vests available for an additional donation.  

Be prepared to go home with lusty tails of adventure.  Educational opportunities and entertainment are part of the weekend.  Proclamations from dignitaries welcome.

Walk with Mayor Sherry Capello through Lebanon. Learn about city history as you get some healthy exercise.

The walk will be highlighted by a stop at WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital, where president Tom Harlow will talk about "Investing in Personal Wellness = Lower Health Care Costs." 

Participants will receive free pedometers, while supplies last. Information on healthy steps will be available from the Lebanon Valley Family YMCA Healthy Living Coordinator.

The community is invited to join Mayor Sherry Capello on a walk through the City.  Participants will learn some Lebanon history while adding steps into their day.  Participants will receive FREE pedometers (while supplies last) and information on healthy steps from Lebanon Valley Family YMCA Healthy Living Coordinator.

WALK WITH A COP

Kids ages 6-12 are invited to join Lebanon City Police Chief Todd Breiner on a fitness walk that will focus on bicycle safety tips.  All kids will receive a FREE neon green t-shirt that says "I Walked the Beat" and a safety book.

The walk begins at the Lebanon Valley Family YMCA and will be highlighted by a stop at the Lebanon Farmers Market.  At the Lebanon Farmers Market, the kids will receive a healthy snack from Market vendors and then join "Police, Read to Me", where bicycle safety will be the book topic read by a Lebanon City Police Officer.

REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.  Walk is limited to the first 30 kids.  Registration forms may be obtained on the City of Lebanon website at www.lebanonpa.org

Veterans' Expo & Job Fair -- Berks County
The Veterans’ Expo & Job Fair will return to Berks County from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 30, 2018, at the Crowne Plaza Reading Hotel in Wyomissing.

Presented by OLP Events, the Veterans’ Expo will connect active and retired military members of all ages and their families with the benefits and resources available to them through local community-service providers, healthcare professionals, VA benefits counselors, VFWs, and American Legions, plus businesses covering everything from home improvement, legal services, and finance to retirement living and insurance.

Street fair to bring baskets, food, giant brain to Lebanon

      Gift baskets, rides, food and a giant brain will be on hand for visitors to the 70th annual WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital Auxiliary Street Fair, to be held in June in Lebanon.

      The fair will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 1, and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, June 2, on South Eighth Street, between Oak and Orange streets. It raises money to benefit WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital and its programs.

      The 70th annual celebration will kick off Friday with a Fish Fry and Pasta Dinner. The Elvis Tribute Band will perform at the bandstand from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The event will feature booths including those featuring theme gift baskets, books, flowers/plants and crafts.

      The fair also will feature the MEGA Brain, an inflatable, walk-through brain exhibit. The exhibit, which is 18 feet long. 14 feet wide and 12 feet high, allows visitors to learn about normal brain function, brain disease, brain trauma and some of the latest treatments for brain issues.  The brain will be on display June 2. The MEGA brain is sponsored by the Paul F. Dixon Stroke Center at WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital, with funding from the Francis J. Dixon Foundation.

      The gift baskets, which are raffled off, will be on display from May 26 to 31 in the main lobby of the hospital, at Fourth and Walnut streets. They also will be on display at the fair Friday afternoon, June 1.

      This year’s goal is to raise $40,000 to complete the auxiliary’s $150,000 pledge to support the WellSpan Sechler Family Cancer Center. The center offers treatments including chemotherapy, infusion therapy and radiation as well as many support services to area residents. Since its first fair in 1949, the auxiliary has contributed more than $2.7 million to the hospital for equipment and special projects to enhance the care and comfort of local patients and their families.
