Germany to America: 18th Century Odyssey

There are many stereotypes about the immigrants who came from German speaking lands to America in the 1700s. This lecture uses the personal memoirs of the immigrants themselves to dipel the myths about why they came, what the voyage was like, and how they like America.

    James M. Beidler is a columnist, author and editor who specializes in research on Germans, historical newspaper and his home state. Jim, a Pennsylvania native, specializes in German genealogy as well as research on his home state. He's currently writing Trace Your German Roots Online for Family Tree Books.

Black Tie Gala

The hospitality programs at HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College, turned 50 last year! We are holding a black tie gala and fundraising dinner to celebrate 50 years of alumni and support the students of the next 50 years.
This evening brings together 10 amazing local chefs mentoring current Culinary Arts students. It includes elite touches from handcrafted centerpieces and favors to the chocolae masterpiece created by a world renowed pastry chef and HACC alumna, and guest speakers to share the history and impact HACC has made on the Hospitality Industry.

All proceeds will go to directly benefit current and future students with two newly established scholarships, the Culinary Arts Outstanding Student Scholarship and the Hospitality and Tourism Outstanding Student Scholarship. A silent auction will also be held during the event featuring local businesses.

Wengert Memorial Park Master Plan Public Meeting

The Lebanon Valley Conservancy is planning a new park in Lebanon City. The park will be a memorial to John E. Wengert and his contributions to the Lebanon community. The park site is located between the rail trail, Chestnut Street, the Quittapahilla Creek, and 16th Street. The Master Plan will provide a blueprint for park development.

You are invited to attend a public meeting to review the pre-final park master plan. Park planning consultants will provide a brief project overview and present the pre-final master plan for Wengert Memorial Park. Your thoughts and comments will be incorporated into the deisgn process and will help to establish priorities for the future park.
