The recent visit Saturday of Vice President Mike Pence to York for a roundtable discussion and remarks regarding the current tax reform package now in Congress, serves to again highlight the importance of southcentral Pennsylvania’s manufacturing base to the national economy.

Hosted at Association member Military & Commercial Fasteners’ facility on Grumbacher Road near York, the invitation-only event provided Pence a platform to stress the need for President Trump’s new tax agenda, while allowing local manufacturers the opportunity to bring up issues they face each day working in a highly-competitive marketplace. Several Association members were part of the roundtable discussion with the Vice President.

According to Tom Palisin, executive director of The Manufacturers’ Association (which serves nearly 350 companies in manufacturing and logistics in a ten-county region), "The Vice-President’s visit again showcases the need for Washington to improve not only the current tax climate facing manufacturing, but to deal head-on with specifics of the proposed new legislation, such as the ability to expense capital investments and to open-up more lending to manufacturing by local and community banks."

The event was attended by about 100 guests, many from local manufacturers and businesses and also included several Pennsylvania Congressional members from the House and Senate, as well as Secretary of Labor Alexander Acosta.
