On Thursday, Nov. 19, the United Way of Lebanon County held its mid-campaign update meeting for 2015 at The Foundry Craft Grillery in Lebanon. 2015/2016 Campaign Chair David Warner Jr., attorney at Buzgon Davis Law Offices, provided an update on the progress of the “Great Things Happen When We LIVE UNITED” campaign to numerous business and community United Way supporters. Warner announced that $631,500 has been raised to date for the campaign. This amount represents 34 percent of the United Way’s $1.85 million goal.

 

Allegiant recently announced new nonstop service from Harrisburg International Airport (MDT) to southwest Florida via Punta Gorda Airport (PGD), beginning February 18, 2016. This marks the third nonstop destination in Florida served by Allegiant.

 

Alicia LaFrance of Philhaven joined the United Way of Lebanon County as a Campaign Loaned Executive for the 2015-16 community campaign. Currently Philhaven’s Director of Community Engagement, Alicia will also serve alongside United Way campaign staff and volunteers to provide professional fundraising expertise through the end of the campaign. The United Way will conclude the 2015 Campaign - “Great Things Happen When We Live United” - at their Victory Celebration on January 28, 2016, at StoneRidge Poplar Run. Individuals are encouraged to join the campaign by donating before January 28, 2016, and can call Alicia at the United Way office at 717-273-8144 or donate online at unitedwaylebco.org. 

 

Lancaster General Health and the University of Pennsylvania Health System, who recently formed a partnership, each appointed three new board members. Ralph Muller, Thomes E. Beeman, and Frederick C. UGI announced that it would be lowering its purchased gas rates beginning Dec. 1, 2015. As a result, the bill for the monthly residential customer went down by 6.7 percent and commercial customers’ bills went down by 6.6 percent. On Dec. 1, the United Way of Lebanon County raised $5,150 for the fourth annual #GivingTuesday. Also, five businesses, including Boscov’s, Lebanon County Library System, Developmental & Disability Services of Lebanon Valley, and Palmyra Area School District, turned in their employee campaign results on Dec. 1, donating a total of $16,463.20 to the United Way.

On the evening of Thursday, Dec. 3, the United Way of Lebanon County hosted its first LEAD UNITED Reception at Lebanon Valley College’s Suzanne H. Arnold Art Gallery in the Zimmerman Recital Hall. CEO Kenny Montijo announced that $880,873.43 has been raised to date, equaling just over 47% of the United Way’s $1.85 million goal for the “Great Things Happen When We LIVE UNITED” campaign. The United Way is also looking for volunteers for it’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program to help individuals with preparing taxes for the 2016 tax season. Shipley Energy has made a deal with Gleba Inc., a bulk petroleum trucking company based in King of Prussia, to purchase its operating assets. This deal will add a number of pieces of equipment and seven full-time drivers to Shipley Energy. (Source: CPBJ.com)

 

Legal action is being taken by the Federal Trade Commission and the Pennsylvania Attorney General against Penn State Hershey and PinnacleHealth System in order to block their proposed merger. Penn State Hershey and PinnacleHealth represent the two largest health systems in Harrisburg. The merger would result in reduced competition, increased health care costs, and a decrease in the quality of care provided. The administrative trial is set for May 17, 2016, and on Dec. 9, a federal judge issued a restraining order to block the merger. As of Friday, Dec. 18, the United Way of Lebanon County collected 1,882 new and gently worn hats, scarves, gloves, mittens, coats, sweaters and more for adults and children through the seventh annual “LIVE WARM” Drive. The number of items collected is a 40% increase over last year’s efforts.
